What's In a Name? Legacy - Generation 1
Hello and welcome to my latest legacy challenge. This legacy's theme will be the Top 1,000 most popular baby names in 2023 based on the SSA's data. Each baby's name will be drawn randomly from that list. Our founder, Aylani Smith, has the 1,000th most popular name for girls from last year and one of the most common last names.
This challenge will also be played for points and each update will contain pictures from the entire generation so updates won't come out as frequently but I think it will really help me with completing challenges.
Anyway, let's meet our founder, Aylani Smith. Her name comes from Arabic and means "exalted." Her traits (randomized) are Clumsy, Virtuoso, No Sense of Humor, Irresistible, and Avant Garde. Her LTW is Hit Movie Composer.
Aylani got a job in the music career, but there's not a lot to do since she doesn't have enough money to build a house so she decided to visit the local library. That's where she met Gilberto Gonzalo. He is a good future spouse candidate. Gotta love the bling.
I am not sure why I took this picture, probably just because it's pretty. Aylani lives in Sunlit Tides, one of my favorite Sims 3 worlds.
She enjoys spending time at the beach. I am jealous of my own sim and want to live in Sunlit Tides.
She got a little sunburned I think.
I mean just look at this place. It's gorgeous. Sims 3 graphics are still very good in my opinion.
Aylani needs a guitar to progress in her career, but she doesn't have enough money for a new one. She decided to hit the consignment store to see if they had a used one but no luck. She did meet Alonso Candelaria though, another spouse candidate.
Aylani is Avant Garde which means she likes to do street art. Here she is tagging the consignment store.
Aylani was invited to Gilberto's pool party where she met this very hairy woman who is apparently a werewolf.
Aylani finally made enough money to buy her own guitar and this is where she gets to jam out. This would definitely be conducive to my own creativity.
Aylani enjoyed the Summer Festival and got a face painting of the sun. There's plenty of that in Sunlit Tides.
Gilberto threw another pool party. Aylani is very sunburned from all her time in the sun.
She relaxes inside away from the sun in Gilberto's spa. You can see how bad she got burned.
Aylani tried to make friends with this woman. They talked a lot about how sunny it always is in Sunlit Tides. Alas, that wasn't enough to form a true connection.
Time to cool down with a nice treat.
Aylani invited Gilberto over to her lawn. She still doesn't have a house. He didn't seem to mind though and enjoyed her music.
Aylani met a man who looks a lot like Colonel Sanders.
She made enough money to build a one room shack. At least she doesn't have to use the toilet and take a shower outside anymore.

The shack is looking a bit more like a house now.
Aylani's favorite spot to hang out is the local tavern where she plays foosball with some townies, including one who is a fairy.
Halloween rolled around and of course Gilberto threw a party. He dressed up as a hot dog and Aylani decided to be a doctor.
They had their first kiss dressed like this and in the bathroom for some reason.
I just liked the way Gilberto looked at Aylani after he woke up.
Aylani asked Gilberto to move in, and no it was not his money that allowed them to expand their house. Per the rules, I got rid of the money he brought in, and this is all due to money from their careers. Gilberto has a career in the sports field.
Unfortunately, Gilberto aged up to a mature adult all by himself after work. It's time to introduce Gilberto as the generation 1 spouse. Gilberto's name is the Spanish and Italian version of Gilbert and means "bright pledge."
He is Athletic, Charismatic, Flirty, a Snob, and a Party Animal (makes a lot of sense). His LTW is Perfect Mind, Perfect Body.
Gilberto got a lot hairier after becoming a mature adult. You know I've heard that men do get hairier as they age.
These two are very cute and if left to their own devices just like to flirt with each other all day.
Gilberto threw on some more clothes in order to propose to Aylani. She of course said yes.
Gilberto supports Aylani in her music endeavors, as she supports his athletic goals.
Aylani had a fun bachelorette party at the tavern.
It got a little wild, with sims dancing on the bar. A woman even transformed into a werewolf because it was the full moon.
Aylani is pregnant with her first child.

There are a lot of supernaturals in the town of Sunlit Tides surprisingly.
Since Aylani was about to pop, they decided to have a more private wedding in front of the ocean.
It was still very pretty and peaceful.
Aylani went into labor not much later and gave birth to a son. I forgot to mention that I decided to do the Strict Equality rule of the challenge so the heir must be a boy since the genders will alternate. Also, I want to do heir polls on Boolprop but you'll later see that there won't be one for generation 2 since Aylani and Gilberto don't plan on having many children.
Aylani and Gilberto named their son Deacon. It is number #534 on the list, and it is another name for a church cleric basically, so an occupational name. It originally comes from the Greek word for "servant."
Deacon was born Athletic like his dad and he Loves the Cold, which will be a problem for someone who lives in Sunlit Tides to be honest (I also chose the Randomized traits rule).
Aylani is not thrilled to become a mature adult. No one else looks very excited about it either.

Aylani is pregnant with her second and final child. I decided I don't like founders having gazillions of children because it's a lot harder since the first generation has the least amount of money. However, I decided they should still have a spare just in case. You'll find out later why having at least one spare is ALWAYS a good idea.
Deacon grew up into an adorable toddler. I downloaded the Random Genetics mod which fine tunes inheritance and genetics so Deacon should be a good blend of both of his parents and not just have one's eyes, one's mouth, etc.
This is just a picture to show off how cute pregnant sims in Sims 3 are. Not to throw too much shade at Sims 4, but their bellies always look really weird to me in that game.
Aylani is a good mom. Deacon looks up at her adoringly.
The second and final child of generation 2 is a girl. That means she is not eligible to be heir and that makes Deacon the heir by default. She is still adorable though.
Her name is Meilani (it doesn't rhyme with Aylani because I am pronouncing her name like "EYE-lah-nee" and Meilani like "MAY-lah-nee" and I could be totally wrong and if I am please let me know), and it is #845 on the list. It is a Hawaiian name (which totally fits in Sunlit Tides) and means "may" and "heaven."
She was born Artistic and Neurotic. Honestly, I feel like a lot of artists are neurotic so that fits (I say this as someone who likes creative writing and is also neurotic).
Gilberto is climbing the ranks of the sports career. He loves wearing the mirrored shades.
Meilani grew up into an adorable toddler as well.

Uh oh, Deacon has an imaginary friend. His name is Cosmo.
Deacon grew up into a cute child. He gained the Ambitious trait.
A sort of family photo. It's rare for them to be all together.
The house is getting a little bigger. It is still only one floor. I prefer playing legacies on only one floor if I can help it.
Gilberto wanted to update his outfit so he got some new duds.
Meilani also grew up, and now she is Absent-Minded as well as Neurotic. That's a good combination. /s
The family decided to take a trip to the summer festival where they joined the hot dog eating contest against each other.
Aylani won, and it wasn't even close.

A freaking meteor decided to strike the festival grounds! It killed a townie and Meilani!
I very rarely get meteors, let alone during the first generation of a legacy so this is something else. I can't believe it killed one of my sims and a child sim at that.
Rest in Peace, Meilani. Your life was cut short. :( And this is why I said earlier it's good to always have at least one spare. I hate to say it but it's good the meteor took Meilani and not Deacon as he is supposed to be heir. If Deacon died, Aylani and Gilberto would need to try for another boy.

Gilberto aged up into an elder and decided to shave his hair. I think it looks good on him.
Time for Deacon's birthday and the maid is not amused.
Deacon is very handsome and a nice blend of his parents. He gained the Charismatic trait, just like his dad. He takes after his dad in personality a lot.
Deacon made a friend at school. Her name is Will Small, and hilariously if he decides to marry her she will become the female Will Smith.
I gave her a little bit of a makeover. She has really weird eyes. Deacon doesn't care though. We aren't shallow in this legacy, and honestly I think her genetics could blend in a really interesting way with Deacon's.
They had their first kiss in their underwear because Will stayed the night. Don't worry. They didn't get up to any shenanigans because I don't install mods like that lol
Gilberto and Aylani became elders before I thought to try and memorialize them. This is Aylani's pretty bad attempt using her phone. We'll have to do something better.
Aylani received the "Oh my Ghost" opportunity and so Meilani has returned to the household, although she is still very dead.
So this is actually after I gave Will Small a mini-makeover. I said I did it earlier but that earlier photo was her default appearance. Her eyes are still pretty odd, but the bangs help hide them a little bit.
Meilani decided to go trick or treating as an alien ghost.
I'm pretty sure all the sims thought she had the best costume.
I'm not sure if it's because she is a ghost or neurotic but Meilani's paintings are all very strange and colorful like this.
Aylani aged into an elder, but she is still very pretty.
Deacon was named Prom King, and his prom photo with Will Small is very extra.
An updated view of the house. I have slowly been upgrading their stuff to higher quality as Aylani and Gilberto make more money.
Aylani still likes to tag the town with her colorful murals.
Meilani aged into a teen somehow even though she is dead and a ghost. You can see she is working on a painting of her mom Aylani to memorialize her.
Here is the finished product. It could be better but it could also be a lot worse so we're keeping it.
Gilberto is close to topping the sports career. His work outfits have gotten more and more extra.
Aylani was finally able to become a Hit Movie Composer, topping the Music career and completing her lifetime wish in one go.
Deacon became a young adult, and you know what that means...it's time for generation 2 to begin. I am thinking about sending him to university even though he did pretty badly on the scholarship test. I know it will give him a head start in the Business career. His lifetime wish is to become CEO of a Mega-Corporation.
He also gained the trait Eco-Friendly so now he rides a bike everywhere, which as he is an Athletic sim he is very happy about.
Just a photo of Deacon running off to his graduation and totally forgetting his new bike. Also an updated view of the outside of the house. I tried to do some landscaping as you can see.
Did you forget about Cosmo the imaginary friend? Deacon did not. After a long time, Deacon discovered how to make a potion that would turn his friend into a real sim.
Here is Cosmo. He has some interesting features, including bright blue eyes and green hair. Deacon is going to stay friends with Cosmo, but Cosmo will be moving out. He will still get invited to all the family parties of course. Mainly I just turned him real because I rarely ever do that. If Deacon was female maybe he would have tried to romance Cosmo although honestly romancing your imaginary friend is really weird and sort of creepy if you think about it.
Anyway, that's it for Generation 1. On to Generation 2 and Deacon's turn as heir.
